IVC Announces Appointment of Dr. Lennor Johnson as Superintendent and Interim President | Education


IMPERIAL – The Vice President of Student Services and Equity, Dr. Lennor M. Johnson, will now serve as Acting Superintendent and President of Imperial Valley College. His experience in higher education spans over 24 years and he has dedicated his career to helping students achieve their educational goals and close the equity gaps.

Since arriving at Imperial Valley College as Dean of Student Services in 2016, he has been instrumental in the growth and development of the prison program, dual enrollment, pantry, student housing and other programs designed to meet the unique needs of students who are considered youth in foster care, the disabled, former incarcerated, homeless and other disproportionately affected populations.

Johnson was successful in securing millions of dollars in grants to expand IVC student services.

“Dr. Johnson demonstrates an unwavering commitment to helping underserved students overcome obstacles to achieving their academic and professional goals, which is evident throughout his professional career,” said the administrator and chairman of the board. IVC Administration, Bro. Marc Edney. “We are delighted to continue the work of serving our students with Dr. Johnson at the helm of the college.”

Prior to joining IVC, Dr Johnson held a number of leadership positions in the higher education industry including campus director, dean, graduate program chair, professor, director of community relations, and academic advisor. As a campus principal at Bryant & Stratton College, he served as the CEO of two campuses (Bayshore and Milwaukee). As Dean of Robert Morris University, he has shown leadership in the successful repositioning of the University to increase access for first generation, veterans, athletes, foreign and international students. He also helped the university increase the number of full-time enrollments from 3,800 to 7,800 in five years. As President and Professor, he has researched, developed and taught several undergraduate and graduate courses in the areas of business, change leadership, marketing, and education.

My hopes and vision are to bring staff, faculty and students back to campus safely, remove barriers to student success, expand and strengthen community partnerships, and increase enrollment ” said Dr. Lennor Johnson, Superintendent and Acting President. “The IVC has amazing faculty, staff and administrators who are all dedicated to the success of students and the community, which makes anything possible. I am extremely excited and touched by this opportunity and would like to thank the Board of Directors for this opportunity to continue to serve our students and our community.

Johnson is an active member of the community where he is currently a member of the Imperial Rotary Club and a member of the Imperial Valley Social Justice Committee, where he advocates for educational reform and economic development, particularly for minority communities. He was a founding board member of the Elevation Foundation, a non-profit organization designed to help at-risk youth get the education, skills, jobs, and community connections needed to lead successful lives. . Throughout his career, he has mentored countless people to help them grow and become productive citizens.

Dr Johnson holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Robert Morris University, an MBA from Governors State University and a Doctorate in Education from Argosy University. He also served four honorable years in the United States Marine Corps. Dr Johnson has two children and resides in the town of Imperial.
